The cell phone
Last night I survived without outside communication. Sans cell phone or landline there was very little sleeping going on. The loooooooong hours of the night were filled with my prayers for safety and many elaborate plans to beat any prowlers or burglars to a pulp with toilet brushes, hammers, vacuum attachments, plungers or anything I could easily access. I even contemplated adding my drill to the assortment of weapons I was already sleeping with. I decided on Hector instead. I feel very lucky to have a phone. It’s hard to believe people have to go without. The reality for me is that (I can say this now because it’s sunny and warm out today and I made it through the night) I live in a relatively safe (weird) hood and I have a security system in my home. I also live 4 blocks from the local police and fire station. I was fine. Some people are not. I am so grateful.
